Once again, we were able to offer an exciting opportunity to all primary schools in North West Leicestershire; when we invited them to send two of their Higher Attaining Pupils in PE to a special careers day at Loughborough College on Monday 5th June.
Voted the best university for sport in the world this year, Loughborough University shares its facilities with Loughborough College. With many of the students being elite athletes, the facilities are of the highest standards and it is great for our children to be able to experience them first hand.
This year we had 58 children take up this opportunity, and they all enjoyed three different workshops – all of which covered different areas of sport they may not have experienced before, giving them an insight into the different career avenues they could go into in the future.
This years workshops included ‘A day in the life of an elite athlete’,’Coaching skills’ and ‘Sports Science (fitness testing.)’ We were lucky enough to have Elliott Powell – a former student at Loughborough College and 200m elite runner with us on the day. He delivered a very inspiring workshop giving the children an insight into what life is like as an elite athlete.
A thank you must go to Loughborough College for hosting the day and giving the children a day to remember! Also to Elliott for spending the day with us, we wish him good luck in his next big races!!
