LATEST NEWS
On the 26th & 27th November 2019 we ran our first ever Development Dodgeball competitions across Ashby School, King Edward VII College & Ibstock Community College. This was the first event in our new brand of competition, aimed at giving those children who aren’t usually picked to represent their school a chance to come out and take part in a competitive sport environment and for us to get stuck in with reframing the competition! On the 26th November we had 6 teams attend Ibstock and a further 10 come to Ashby Upper School. After a fab display of competitive dodgeball using power plays & spirit of the games votes, Ashby Hilltop & Donisthorpe reached the finals of the competition, with Donisthorpe leaving as the winners of the Ashby competition! At the same time over at Ibstock Whitwick took the title at the end of the round robin tournament!
The next day we headed back out to Ibstock College and over to King Edward VII Science & Sports College to get the second round of the group stages underway, with another 6 teams competing at Ibstock and a further 11 teams taking part at King Ed! The kids got stuck in, thinking about how and when was best to use their 3 power plays, and although the dodgeball display itself was fantastic there was an even better display of sportsmanship shown by all the teams. The Ibstock competition saw New Swannington take the crown, meanwhile at King Edward VII Thringstone took on Broom Leys in a close final and walked away the victors! The final round of this competition will be taking place on the 4th December to see which of New Swannington, Thringstone, Whitwick or Donisthorpe will go on to represent North West Leicestershire in the County Rounds of the competition!
A huge thank you to all of our amazing young leaders from Ibstock, Ashby & King Ed who stepped up to the challenge of reffing dodgeball (never an easy task!) and did so with great success. A big well done also to our Spirit of the Games winners; Ashby Hilltop, Woodstone, Whitwick & Sir John Moore, and thank you to everyone for attending!
UPDATE:
Congratulations to our final winners of the North West Leicestershire area, New Swannington! They will go on to represent NWL in the Level 3 County round in March!
